The Consulate General of Finland Los Angeles and PocketVenture present StartUp Grand Prix on Wednesday, June 5 2013 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The event’s Keynote Speaker is Andrew Stalbow, Executive Vice President, and Strategic Partnerships of Rovio Entertainment. Andrew develops new revenue streams for Rovio through partnerships with other outlets in the entertainment industry. He previously served as Senior Vice President of Mobile at Fox Digital Entertainment, where he was responsible for application publishing and video licensing of 20th Century Fox properties. He was a key player in the development of Angry Birds Rio, a joint venture between 20th Century Fox and Rovio.
Six to ten start-ups will be chosen, based on applications, to give each a 3 minute pitch. A panel of venture capitalists will give feedback on each performance. The audience will vote for the winner, by using an online platform called PocketVenture, available on your browser in your own device.
“I warmly welcome American entrepreneurs to explore the various business opportunities and excellent infrastructure that [Finland] can offer. The Finnish economy is knowledge-based, strong on innovation and open to foreign investment. We also have a skilled workforce and unique co-operation between educational and research institutions and industry. All these together make Finland an ideal place to test new solutions and technologies. Most of the transit trade from the EU to Russia already goes through Finland.”
- President Sauli Niinistö, (2/26/2013)
