Application Period for Social Innovation Fast Pitch Now Open!
- Deadline: Monday, July 22, 2013
In an effort to support social entrepreneurs tackling some of this city’s toughest problems, and to contribute to the innovative, vibrant culture in the Los Angeles area, Los Angeles Social Venture Partners (LASVP) has developed the annual “Social Innovation Fast Pitch” into a signature program.
The Social Innovation Fast Pitch is a two-month training and mentoring program for innovative nonprofits that are effecting social change in Greater Los Angeles, culminating in the Social Innovation Fast Pitch event.
The goal of the Social Innovation Fast Pitch program is to build the capacity of, and create visibility for, innovative local nonprofits and the social entrepreneurs who lead them. Leaders from 20 organizations participate in the program each year, where they receive training, feedback and mentoring on how to succinctly and powerfully “tell their story.” Through the process, they will also build valuable cross-sector relationships.
- Two-month mentoring program for some of LA’s most promising nonprofits
- Culminates with a Fast Pitch competition
- Count on being educated and inspired!
The Social Innovation Fast Pitch is a free two-month communication skills training program and competition for innovative nonprofits that are effecting lasting social change in Greater Los Angeles, culminating in the Social Innovation Fast Pitch event on November 5, 2013. The program trains nonprofit leaders to powerfully communicate their story and connects them with leaders of the business, philanthropic, and nonprofit communities who can help them to achieve their goals.
Leaders from 20 nonprofits will be selected to participate based on the degree to which their approaches to pressing issues give them a competitive advantage to significantly increase social impact. Over September and October, they receive training, feedback and mentoring from business leaders on how to succinctly and powerfully “tell their story.” Past participants have described the program as invaluable, resulting in greater confidence and effectiveness when presenting, increased exposure for their organization, valuable new relationships, and new support from donors and volunteers.
This year’s Fast Pitch will be held in conjunction with the Southern California Grantmakers annual conference at the California Science Center. Up to 10 finalists will make three-minute pitches to a panel of judges and an audience of approximately 600 philanthropic, business, civic, and nonprofit leaders. The finalists compete to win over $35,000 in awards.
Following the program, the Showcase reception will be held in the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Pavilion, where all participants have the chance to share their innovative concepts with the audience. It’s a great time for the audience to connect with the organizations that interest them and for the participants to recruit new volunteers and supporters.
Past Social Innovation Fast Pitch winners include organizations like Young Invincibles, Streetcraft LA, First Place for Youth, LA Diaper Drive, Gumball Foundation, Get on the Bus, BTS Communications, Food Forward, South Central Scholars Foundation, Girls & Gangs, Everyone Deserves a Roof, and others.
